Thursday Game Night

Game night again last night!

I was only able to come up at 8, but able to get in a great fantasy game with my Daemons. Have not run them since the new book came out last year, in stead concentrating on the Druchii. After NZTC I think we're all a bit tired of our usual armies! Sam ran his Mantic Ogres for the first time. Lovely Figures.

Being a bit green on the Daemons he was the obvious opponent to play, given his huge experience with Daemons at tourament level.

 Luc isn't sick of his Ogres yet, so ran them against Nicks Nautical themed Greenskins. Saw 40K going down in at least 3 games, and I think there was a Warmachine game as well. Not sure what happened in the junior session. Not a huge turnout, but I had a ball anyhow.

The Ogres-Daemons game was a real grindfest, with Sam eventually getting a 13-7 victory.
Sam ran an Ironblaster,  Leadbelcher bus, Ogre Irongut Deathstar and 3 Firebellies, 3 dogs to distract!
 I ran Slaaneshi daemonettes, 2 Beasts of Nurgle, Soulgrinder, Bloodletters and 10 Horrors, 2 x 5 Dogs, Can o' Khorne; Daemonprince w Exhalted Gifts. My one Beast spent the whole game chasing one of the sabretusks in circles before finally gobbling it up. Highlight for me was my Soulgrinder snipe-grabbing his general from his gutstar and squashing him in his Deathclaw! Woohoo!

So we had the 2014 NZTC in Khandallah, Wellington at the weekend. 2 days of luvverly WHF battles in team format. The KWC didn't do as well as we had hoped (or had been buffed up to do)

We fielded 2 teams - Beauty and the Beasts, and 1/250th of the League of Doom.

The experienced Tournament and Masters Level players with killer lists went into B&B (Fern, Hamish, Sam, Nick) and the Newbies with less hard-hitting lists in The LoD.

Not unexpectedly,  the LoD took out the Wooden Hammer,  or was that Wooden Spoon?  (Rex, Dave, Luc and Herman)

Wood elves vs a Dwarf Gun-line. Any bets on the outcome? 

B&B came 7th Overall in a field packed with International and National Masters level players. Not bad going guys, but not as good as they had hoped to do. An ubiquitous note was the shaming of the person who let the team down by the wearing of a blonde wig and tiara. Nick was the first to sport this dubious honour!

A great time was had by all, new friendships (and enemies? ) made. Kudos to Pete Dunn and his team for arranging this great team event!

Warhammer New Zealand Team Championship 2014

This weekend sees the NZTC 2014 taking place on 2 and 3 March.

KWC has 2 teams representing us at this years Championship:

• Beauty and the Beasts: Fern, Hamish, Sam and Nick - Hot favourites to take out the title according to some. Possibly the meanest lists out there (?) According to Pete Dunn, at Fields of Blood anyhow.

• 1/250th of the Legion of Doom: Rex, Herman, Dave and Luc

AGM minutes 2014

Notes from Annual General Meeting held 23 Jan 14...

Hi everybody,

Just keeping it all straight, here's some notes from the AGM held yesterday evening:

1. Annual Report - Mark gave a verbal report of activities of 2013, and where the club now stands. Added to by several people in discussion. Some key points:

• Assets - The club has a cupboard, which is full of terrain and scenery, several board games, and $863 in the bank. The board games were new in 2013 and have proved popular.
• Liabilities - Nil.
• Members - We had 43 members at the end of 2013.
• Events and Leagues - We ran 4 club Sunday's in 2013 and several leagues, although could do more. Open Day and Swap Meet were particular successes.
• Games Played - Big increase in types of games being regularly played: 40k, Fantasy, role play, Warmachine, Memoir '44, board games (e.g. Risk, Contagion) as regulars, and Star Wars X-Wing, Flames of War and WW2 getting going.
• Community Centre - This is a great venue (safe, central, warm, good for youngsters) and Pat and the Community Centre have been very supportive. We're still under warning to have our rent increased again, and if this happened we'd have to review where club was held due cost.
• Door Fees - Noticed a drop-off in payments towards end of 2013 - we need everyone to pay their $4 every Thursday without having to be chased, or it will hurt us all. This pays for the room rental.
•  Financial Accounting - We've had good Treasurers, but current Treasurer Hamish (a banker by profession) is improving the systems and the visibility and we'll have accounts for the next AGM. The move to online banking was a very good one.
• Thanks - to Committee members particularly, but also all who have helped out.

2. Items from the floor - a number of items were raised and discussed, including:

• Club Meeting Running - Committee and club need to address how the club runs on a club night, as its too haphazard at present - opening up, collecting fees, closing up. Everyone needs to pack their gear and tables away when they leave.
• Grants - Club could apply for grants - to be pursued in 2014.
• Door Fee - Committee allowed by Constitution to do this as year progresses.
• Club buy codexes - Nice idea, but no. Not enough money for that. People need to bring their own armies, club will usually only buy things everybody can use.
• Internal competition fees - Not charged by Club. Club would only charge were there were costs which needed to be recovered from players.
• KapCon 2014 - A group of gamers from Kapiti, including members of this club, have been discussing idea of a weekend long convention/competition in Kapiti, on the national agenda. To be progressed (see Mark if interested).

3. Membership Fee - Confirmed at $30 per person for 2014. Payable now.

Master's Results form last week

WHFB NZ Master's Results in:  Kapiti WC up there.

Hamish and Sam went up to Hamilton to take part in the NZ Masters Invitational Tournament. The Overall Winner was Pete Dunn. Well done Pete. Looks like Skaven ruled the roost !
